If you’re anything like me you probably enjoy scrolling through social media feeds with other people’s art and think “wow, I’d love to learn to do that!”.  Watercolor painting can be intimidating and painting with watercolors is a challenge if you don’t know what you’re doing.

It’s unlike any other painting medium, it’s unforgiving if you make a mistake, and you can’t just paint over it like acrylic or oil paint.  Trust me, I have made lots of mistakes painting with watercolor and it’s through those mistakes that you truly learn how to use this beautiful medium and grow your skill and confidence!

I’ve been teaching this medium for a while now and I know what challenges a beginner, how and have put together this short series to help the absolute beginner learn a few of my key tips to get you painting and enjoying watercolor right away!

Painting and creating bring me so much joy! When I am at my desk listening to my favorite Spotify playlist or am re-watching old Outlander episodes, I am painting and just exploring, without having pressure about what I am creating... I am my happiest.  I am at peace. I am inspired. I am relaxed. When I wake up the next morning and go down to my desk and see all of the little bits of watercolor paintings now dry, laying on my desk, I am amazed at what I created and feel energized throughout the day to tackle other things.

You see, painting for me is like running for others.  While I’m doing it, I may be in a zone, and sometimes going through the motions without even thinking about it.   When I’m done, I feel so energized and happy that I spent that time painting, and that boost of energy then trickles into the rest of my day and inspires so many other areas of my life!

I want to help you get to that same place where you can spend some time with your paint and brush and feel the rush of creating something with your own hands that has no purpose other than to bring you joy!

So let’s get started and see what you can create!

Before we get started, let me tell you something… I’m not a formally trained artist.  I didn’t spend years in art school studying the masters and learning art history. I did always have a passion for art.  I did leave University for a year and take an art program at college. I have taken classes at my local art gallery and have taken even more classes online.

What I did do over the last 7 years is I practiced a lot after taking each and every class that I enrolled in.  I messed up a lot. A lot of my pieces have ended up in the bin. But I have also painted some amazing pieces, have used those pieces in my design work, have sold them to collectors and am growing my licensing portfolio as we speak!
