My Art Business Routine
Growing up the term “starving artist” was something I heard over and over again which was one of the main reasons I didn’t pursue art in the first place.
So when I started life i design, I wanted to create a world where I could pursue art full-time and earn a full-time income from it too. I’m grateful to be able to do that and I want to share my knowledge with all of you!
It definitely wasn’t easy at first, but as time went on, I learned how to sell my art successfully and figure out what sold well in my online shop and at markets and shows. I did this all while juggling licensing my art and taking on freelance design clients, blogging and balancing social media too. If it sounds like a lot, it was! But I enjoyed every hectic, crazy minute of it.
People often ask me what my day looks like as an artist, and I’ll be honest: each day is different. Today, my days look so much different as my main focus had been teaching and inspiring fellow artists by creating online classes and books guiding them on how to become artists and I love every minute of it!
Creative Mornings
I start my day with a hot latte in one hand and a brush or pencil in the other. I make art every morning. I like to create first thing in the morning because I feel that’s when I am most energized and the house is quiet. Being creative in the morning doesn’t mean I sit down and paint entire paintings first thing in the morning, sometimes it looks like finding inspiration, sketching in my sketchbook, or playing around with color mixing.
Scheduled Time for Admin Tasks
I’ve learned to set aside time for admin tasks and business days. This was an adjustment at first, but being productive when you actual feel productive is important. I know that carving out time to do general business tasks helps me actually accomplish them and not put them off. It’s like having a meeting with your boss, if you know it’s coming you’ll prepare for it.
